Swansea Council: Schools Essentials Grant (previously known as the School Uniform Grant)

Please be reminded that the closing date for applying for the Schools Essentials Grant (previously known as the School Uniform Grant) is 31 May 2026 for the 2025-2026 Academic Year.

We recognise that there may be confusion in applying for this grant as it is for those learners that are eligible for free school meals. Being eligible for free school meals is different to the ‘Universal Free School Meal’ offer (this provides a free meal to all primary aged pupils). Children whose parents/carers receive the following support payments are eligible for free school meals:

· Universal Credit if your annualised net earnings are £7400 or less

· Income support

· Income based Job Seekers Allowance

· Income related Employment and Support Allowance

· Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

· Support under Part VI or the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

· Child Tax Credit where total annual income is less that £16,190 a year

· Working Tax Credit ‘run on’

If you believe you are eligible for free school meals we would urge you to apply (even if your child is in receipt of a free meal in primary school), the application form is quick and easy to complete, and eligibility allows you to apply for the Schools Essentials Grant. This will also help your school as part of the funding schools receive is based on the number of eligible free school meal learners. Once eligibility status has been confirmed for free school meals, you will then be able to apply for the Schools Essentials Grant. This grant is available for those learners:

· Eligible for free school meals

· Children Looked After (CLA) (must attend a Swansea school)

· Who are classed as No Resource to Public Funds (NPRF)

· In year groups Reception – Year 11 (as of September 2025)

The grant is £125 per eligible learner except for those in Year 7, who will be entitled to £200.

The grant can be spent on (but is not limited to):

· School uniform including coats and shoes;

· School sports kits including footwear;

· IT equipment;

· Uniform for enrichment activities (for example scouts, guides, cadets, dance etc.); and

· Equipment (for example school bags and stationery).

School Closure Notice – Monday, 5th January

Dear Parents and Carers,

Due to the severe snow and icy conditions, and limited staff availability, we have made the difficult decision to close the school today. The safety of our pupils and staff is our top priority, and the current conditions make it unsafe to open.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding during this challenging weather. We will keep you updated regarding reopening plans as soon as possible.

As we come to the end of a wonderful term, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support and partnership. It has been a joy to see our pupils learning, growing, and achieving so much together.

Christmas is a special time to reflect on the year gone by and look forward to the opportunities ahead. Senior Pupil Job Description – Trallwn Primary School

Role Overview

The role of Senior Pupil is a position of responsibility and pride within Trallwn Primary School. Senior Pupils act as role models to others, support staff and pupils, and help lead positive changes across the school. This role is similar to that of a prefect and is awarded to pupils who consistently demonstrate kindness, leadership, and a commitment to our school values.

The Criw Cymraeg have been working really hard this term to meet the targets of the Siarter Iaith Silver Award.

Every week we hold a Welsh assembly where we present the Welsh speaker of the week with a special certificate and post them to Class Dojo. We are all learning the Welsh national anthem and are excited with our art project ‘CROESO’. Each class is designing a letter from the word ‘croeso’ which will be displayed in the school before the end of term.

As a criw we have lots of ideas and can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been up to.

The Year 5 and 6 rugby team will travel to Tycroes RFC for a contact rugby match against Tycroes Primary school.

Tycroes RFC, Penygarn Rd, Tycroes, Ammanford SA18 3NY

KO will be approximately 3:30pm and the team will travel via the school minibus.

Parents are invited to attend.

The school will provide a jersey, shorts and socks.

There will be no after school rugby club on this day for Years 3 and 4. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

We aim to be back in school for 5pm.
